Setting aside the fact that writing about looking in my rear view mirror would make some people psycho analyse that as looking into my past or deep within my soul....I'm still going to try to tackle the issue!
On a daily basis, for most people, the rear view mirror is filled with coded numbers, colourful ozone destroying, global warming creating necessities, sometimes flashing lights and the odd impedicus if you are unlucky. Sometimes if I aim mine down a little I see the most beautiful face in the world sitting in my back seat. He usually has no idea I can see him, which does him no favours when he is digging for gold...if you know what I mean! Sometimes it is my husband following me to the mechanic. That always gives me a good laugh. I can watch him try to light his cigarette, change the station on the radio...the inevitable swerve onto the shoulder of the road because he is not paying attention. At red lights he plays drums on his steering wheel and I can always be sure that as soon as I see a police car I can look back and see him scramble clumsily for his seat belt.
Most of the time however, the rear view mirror for me is just a simple tool of driving, until the other day.
Forget looking into my past via car mirror! As of December 26th it has become a looking glass into my future. Friends of mine gave me a fabulous gift this year; an air freshener in the shape of a flip flop. Bright pink with a wicker insole and it smells like sunscreen and pineapples! Attached is a note reminding me to look forward to a trip we are planning to Cuba next year!
First, take note that this will be my very first tropical vacation and second, this will be the first vacation I have taken with friends...aside from the grade 8 ski trip to Quebec, and trust me, that was nothing to write home about!
So this year, when being honked at by belligerent drivers who woke up 30 minutes late and are now trying to ram their front bumper up my *%$....instead of flipping them my own version of a flying impedicus....I'll just look at my flip flop and dream of next winter!
